Cain will play Thursday

The Enquirer’s Richard Skinner first reported today that NewCath senior standout Jake Cain will play in their second round game against Pleasure Ridge Park. Cain was pulled from their first round game against Lawrence County in the second inning after being hit by a fastball in the wrist Tuesday afternoon.

The injury is said to be a “deep bruise” but X-Rays revealed that there are no breaks so the Breds will have the 9th Region player of the year on Thursday night.

Cain was hit in both at bats that he had on Tuesday. The first was a fastball in his backside in the bottom of the first and the second at-bat came in the bottom of the second when he was injured.

NewCath coach Jeff Schulkens told Skinner that Cain will likely be the designated hitter against PRP.
